y1zINTRODUCTION
AYURVEDA is an eternal knowledge. Nobody has created this knowledge.
Even the creater of this universe viz. BRAHMAN also on recalling his memory understood
this knowledge and preached to PRAJAPATI.and so on known to all by saying & listening system.
It is very difficult to describe the so comprehensive-eternal-sacred- knowledge within three pages,however on the factors being narrated here-under, one can understand the essentialities of AYURVEDA. AUSADHI,the medicine,is the creation in this universe, before three generations of the deities.We find its reference in YAJURVEDA.
The creation,dissolution and again creation is a game of the creater, which is known as
a natural phenomena of the universe.
Birth, decay or disease and death is a cycle to play the game. We are tools in this
un-measured game.
y2zDEFINITION OF AYURVEDA
But the AYURVEDA measures the life.It teaches the wholesome and unwholesome dieting
and living for pleasure and preaches for living far away from displeasure.This is named
the Science of life wherein are laid down the good and the bad life.
y3zSPECIALITIES OF AYURVEDA
In the texts of this sacred knowledge we find reference, how to produce a good child?
when the life generates into the uterus of a mother, AYURVEDA says what is to eat and
what is not to eat.
How to deal the day to day life.Thus many speialities are described. AYURVEDA enriches
the person for performing a perfect life duly maintaining his own sound body with
uptodate mental faculty and best of spirit useful for developing the ideal society.
y4zAIM OF AYURVEDA
No doubt,decay and diseases are obvious factors adhered to the life,
whereas AYURVEDA deals to maintain a perfect health free from all disease.
This is the prime aim of AYURVEDA. The secondary aim is to eradicate the causative
factors of disease from its root and cure disease.
y5z FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF AYURVEDA
While looking the public suffering from pains, miseries and diseases,many sages of
different places assembled in the plains of HIMALAYAS.How to get rid of sufferings ?
how the public may obtain a happy and long life? was their main object.
On various types of discussions, conversations and discourses they undergone into
a deep concentration.
During their collective-abstract-contemplation at a time every-one felt the same
six aspects and in the end of their meditation they declared anonymously as follows:
These are the fundamental principles of creation & dissolution,viz.:-
1- SAMANYAM = Prevalent / General
2- VISESAM = Particular/ Special
3- GUNAN = Properties/ Qualities
4- DRAVYANI = Possession/ Substances
5- KARMA = Performance/Action
6- SAMAVAYAM = Permanent concomitance/ Inseperable- - existance of one thing in another.
While obtaining these six aspects for eradication of diseases and to get a healthy long
life for human kind they themselvs achieved the prominant protection from:emotion,
envy,greed,sorrow,anger,amorous etc.
Feelings and obtained healthy- enduring- long- life.
The AYURVEDA having these six fundamental principles devided into
three great trunks viz.:

y6zTHE THEORY OF PANCA-MAHABHUTA
Even then certain factors remained unmanifested, called AVYAKTA.Then five subtle primary elements viz.
SABDA TANMATRA SPARSA TANMATRA, RUPA TANMATRA, RASA TANMATRA,
and GANDHA TANMATRA were considered as consisting of readymentary atoms.
While considering gross energy of MAHAN,five group of MAHABHUTAS found to be first
mass- products of the creation.
These TATVAS are entitled AKASA,VAYU,TEJAS,AP and PRTHIVI. In the formation of a body, three subtle energies viz. VATA, PITTA and KAPHA are considered, whereas in the formation of every substance of universe, may be man or animal, harbal or mineral, above five MAHABHUTAS are collectively considered responsible to constitute the substance.
The formation of human body is also one of this creation.
To maintain good health some substance from nature is to intake, digest and assimilate
in the body.
So RASA-GUNA-VIRYA- VIPAKA-PRABHAVA theory developed in principles for
physiological as well as for pharmacological roll of a substance.
Though the five proto- elemental groups known as PANCA-MAHA BHUTAS are responsible
for the formation of esch & every type of mass, which is the main part,however mind and
spirit occupy two-third part in the formation of a life.
Constitution of mental faculty expands so widely through one or jointly one to five sense
organs that lead to different types of lives.
Therefore, all worldly substances are classified into animate and inanimate groups only.
The spiritual part is altogether different.
Thus body, mind and spirit frame the life. v
AYURVEDA deals the life on such principles for the maintinance of an individuals good
health while preaching regulations for day to day living and to keep harmoney in the
society,find out the causative factor of disease and the line of treatment to eradicate it
without causing another complications.
y7zAYURVEDA IN DAY TO DAY LIFE
The equilibrium of the body elements,concordance of psychosomatic conditions and the
happiness in all conditions of day to day living is the main object of this life science.
To fulfil this in the texts of AYURVEDA we find: which is the good food, which is the bad
food,what is to do for living in the pleasure and what is not to do.We find many references
in large-tri-texts viz.
§-The CARAKA W-The SUSRUTA and Y-The ASTANGA HRDAYA: SAMHITAS.
To maintain the equilibrium of the body the CARAKA says:- The body-elements which are
heavy, grow more by the repeated use of such dietary modes as are heavy in quality; while
the light body-elements grow less.
The light ones again grow more by the light- foods; while the heavy ones grow less. In this
very manner,there is increase of the tendancies of the body-elements by the accession of
like factors,and decrease by the accession of unlike factors.
Consequently,the flesh-element grows more by the intake of flesh,relatively to the rest of
the body-elements.
Similarly the blood-element increases by the input of blood.
The fat-element by fat.
The flesh-marrow by flesh-marrow.
The bones by cartilage. The bone-marrow by bone-marrow.
The semen by semen and the fetus by embryo.
mCARAKA SAMHITA, SARIRA-STHANAM,Chapter 6, verse No.10.n
